VINTAGE: Debbie Curtis and David Parise
June 18, 2010 - July 31, 2010
Dallas, June 18, 2010 - RISING Gallery announces its next exhibition, "Vintage", featuring the works of David Parise and Debbie Curtis. The opening reception will be held June 18, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from June 18 through August 6, 2010. "Vintage" playfully explores Barbie and Ken's personas from another decades' viewpoint.

DAVID PARISE is a Miami based photographer/ videographer who dresses vintage Barbie and Ken Dolls from the 1960's in vintage clothing and places them in varying scenes of recreation. Parise commented, "All of us loved the glamorous and innocent fun lifestyle of the 60's or at least what we imagined it to be." Miami's Art Deco hotels as well as the timeless beaches of the Hamptons, Los Angeles, and Miami have served as backdrops for his Barbie and Ken compositions. His sense of humor, which has been a "work in progress" for 57 years, is evident in all of his work. Many works are unretouched photos and others are photo montages. David's work is currently shown in galleries in New York, Miami and now Dallas.

DEBBIE CURTIS explores Barbie as Icon through her paintings. Her work portrays crude high profiles of Barbie and Ken dolls from the 1960's on both canvas and vintage wallpaper. "I enjoy the challenges of working with a plastic icon; of exploring its personality and demeanor," explains Curtis.

Together Curtis and Parise create an exhibit that is playful and entertaining, a perfect celebration of summer!
Artist Mixer with Kathleen Wilke
June 10, 2010
RISING Gallery to host Artist Mixer for photographer Kathleen Wilke. Thursday June 10, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

You are warmly invited to stop by and join Rising Gallery along with photographer Kathleen Wilke on Thursday for a final chance to view Kathleen's current series "Jane Doe" in its entirety. Kathleen will be available for questions and to discuss her work.

Kathleen's photography captures figures in serene, weightless, ballet-like movements underwater which oftentimes become abstracted by surface reflections to mesmerizing effect. Be sure to mark your calendar - this is a unique opportunity to meet one of Dallas' "must collect" artists in a low key atmosphere.

Kathleen Wilke's exhibition will remain until June 15th, after which RISING will have limited selections on display throughout the summer. Running concurrently elsewhere in the gallery is an exhibition of new paintings by Chris Panatier titled, "Love Them Now, Always".
Artist Talk Featuring Chris Panatier
June 5, 2010
ARTIST TALK AT RISIN GALLERY FEATURING CHRIS PANATIER

Dallas, June 5, 2010 - RISING Gallery announces and Artist Talk featuring Chris Panatier. The talk will be held June 5, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from April 30 - June 11, 2010.

"In a world that seems to be swirling with any combination of catastrophe, deception, politics, war, and uncertainty a moment of truth is like a shelter you can always rely on," states Panatier. This statement fully explains Panatier's most recent series titled, "Love Them Now, Always". Panatier finds moments of "truth" human facial expressions. Like a snap shot photo, Panatier's oil paintings on wood panel display the emotion that can be seen in a human face through a candid moment.

In addition to the exhibition, Chris Panatier has created a painting on one of the Rising Gallery walls. This painting will be a temporary installation that will grace the walls presence only during the show dates. Like a moment in time, it will appear, only to disappear almost just as quickly. Be sure to come by and see the work as it will not be permanent and will only be viewable during the show dates.

Works By Chris Panatier and Kathleen Wilke

RISING GALLERY TO OPEN PANATIER & WILKE SHOWS CONCURRENTLY

Dallas, April 30, 2010 - RISING Gallery announces its next exhibition featuring the works of Chris Panatier and Kathleen Wilke. The opening reception will be held April 30, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from April 30 - June 5, 2010.

Like Panatier's work Wilke's work also focuses on capturing a moment. "My work captures unique moments that only could be achieved with the magic water creates, the model's effortless buoyancy, and the play of light and reflection," explains Wilke. Unlike Panatier's work, Wilke controls some elements of the moments she creates while letting nature take over the rest. Through her lens she creates moments that seem to be lost in time and cause the viewer to want to search for a moment in their life that could relate to her photographs.

In addition to the exhibition, Chris Panatier will be creating a painting on one of the Rising Gallery walls. This painting will be a temporary installation that will grace the walls presence only during the show dates. Like a moment in time, it will appear, only to disappear almost just as quickly. "Free Range"
March 19, 2010
RISING Gallery Features "Free Range".
Dallas, March 19, 2010 - Opening Reception from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm.
The RISING Gallery's next solo exhibition opens March 19, 2010. Artist Jennifer Moreman brings "Free Range" to the gallery at 4631 Insurance Lane in Dallas. The exhibition will run from March 19, 2010 - April 24, 2010.

Working with natural subject matter, Jennifer Moreman, uses multiple, colorful, layers to give her work a new depth. Most of her work is comprised on a smooth solid black background causing her subjects to become more pronounced. The final product is whimsical, psychedelic, and sometimes mysterious.

Moreman starts very loosely with her brush and gradually begins to thicken her paint medium. Using her natural instincts as her guide in the placement of colors and brush strokes she builds color strategically. "I've always been very interested in my own intuition," states Jennifer, "I like to see how my inner self can be displayed on the canvas". What comes out of Moreman's "inner self" is a series that allows for perspective to be seen in her subject matter using a non-conventional method.

So...how are things?

RISING Gallery Features "So?how are things?"
Dallas, February 11, 2010 - Opening Reception from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm.
The RISING Gallery's next solo exhibition opens February 11, 2010. Artist Lloyd Lowe, Jr. brings "So?how are things?" to the gallery at 4631 Insurance Lane in Dallas. The exhibition will run from February 11, 2010 - March 12, 2010

Technology has blessed us with the ability to have infinite amounts of information at our fingertips, but is this truly a blessing? We put so much faith into the written word and published image (and the internet is full of these words and images) but at what point do the words we write become the words we read, and the images we create, the images we see?

The Archetype series is an attempt to answer these questions through visual experimentation. Lowe says, "using what I have come to call the "reciprocity of information" as a theoretical starting point, (At what point does the information we create become the information we believe?), I set out to answer these questions in as controlled a manner as an ever-changing, equivocal internet environment would allow." The end result is something only the viewer can determine.

RISING Gallery will also hold an artist talk with Lloyd Lowe Jr. at the gallery on Saturday, February 27, 2010, from 1:30pm - 3:00pm.

The Belmont Features RISING Gallery Artist, Benjamin Purvis, in "Backwater"
Dallas, January 20, 2010 - The Belmont Hotel announces its next solo exhibition "Backwater" featuring RISING Gallery artist Benjamin Purvis. The opening reception is January 20, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from January 20, 2010 - March 3, 2010.

Benjamin Brantley Purvis grew up in the small town of Franklin, Tennessee, just south of Nashville. Soon after receiving his BFA in the major of Illustration at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL, he began painting in a style similar to that of Jackson Pollock. "This isn't a style I studied, learned or emulated, but something I developed along the way," Purvis explains.

Often painting in his outdoor studio at night under a blanket of stars, experimenting with hues, textures, oils and spirits, Purvis creates his signature pieces. The current series was created out of frustration with what he'd painted using his signature oils. Unsatisfied with what he had produced, Purvis threw the turpenoid used to thin his paints directly on the canvas. Later, while staring at the changed painting, he had a creative breakthrough. He picked up his palette knife and added sky and water to the piece. The resulting work became the first of a series, and the birth of a genre of abstract impressionism for which the emergent artist is increasingly recognized. In addition to employing his signature palette knife, Purvis' process includes a unique combination of brush strokes and paint movement-flinging and flicking paint, along with a calculated spray of turpenoid on the canvas.

soon again
November 13, 2009 - December 30, 2009
RISING Gallery Features "Soon Again"
Dallas, November 14, 2009 - RISING Gallery announces its next solo exhibition "Soon Again" featuring artist Benjamin Pierce. The opening reception is November 14, 2009, 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The exhibition will run from November 13 - December 30, 2009.

Growing up in St. Louis, Missouri, Pierce was often confronted with the symbol of the black face lawn jockey. As "a firm believer in owning insults" he has used these images as the source of one of his series; working to deplete them of their negative connotations and power. A strong advocate that we must sometimes use our imagination to create our own world due to harshness of this world, Pierce invents a world of his own comprised of his own daydreams and stories he creates from passer-bys on the street.

There is no doubt that we are currently living in a world and economy full of uneasiness. These circumstances can often lead to one's life being strained of encouragement and fascination. Using acrylic and mixed media on wood canvas Pierce's work brings about a new lyrical world of bright color and playfulness through his innocent distortion of forms. His motto: "we are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams", certainly shines through his work, which often incorporates references to musical imagery.

Material Witness
October 23, 2009 - November 30, 2009
RISING Gallery announces its next exhibition "Material Witness" which features artist Bonny Leibowitz. The opening reception is October 23, 6:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. The exhibition will run from October 23 - November 30, 2009.

Bonny uses an unusual variety of artistic and natural materials in the process of making her contemporary art. Much of her work layers materials including digital art, photography, inks, oil paint, lexan, encaustic wax, abaca fibers, yupo, graphite, powdered pigments and wire, giving the art a physical, visual and emotional depth.

Bonny says materials and process used to create this body of work are "examining concept and fulfillment in various aspects and nuances while allowing for the nature of the unexpected. I find these mediums give an intriguing combination of both control and loss of control. Going with them allows me to explore and develop a universe. Some of the concepts investigated are that of "Inner Workings"; surfaces and openings, elevations and excavations, environments ethereal and environments essential; including an installation of found materials and video of imagery and process."

From brightly colored works to works in earthy hues to purely black and white, this exhibition provides a broad range of size, color, process and materials.

Pink
October 3, 2009
PINK 2009 Art Auction will be held Saturday, October 3, 7 - 10pm at Rising Gallery, 4631 Insurance Lane, Dallas, TX 75205. Over 25 artists have donated artwork. $10 donations and proceeds from the silent art auction and raffle will benefit The Sharon Wetz Breast Cancer Awareness Fund (SWBCA), a not-for-profit fund formed to support groups that directly affect patients/families fighting breast cancer.

This breast cancer cause is unique, as two men, Bryan and Taber Wetz are leading the fund focused on supporting those in the fight while others work for the cure. The boys know first hand the impact of breast cancer after losing their mother to breast cancer 10 years ago. "The battle against breast cancer ultimately was not just hers. The men in her family had a role in the fight too", said Taber Wetz. "Our mother made a profound difference in the lives of so many with her commitment to breast cancer awareness and support, so we could not bear to let the breast cancer that took her life put an end to her life's work."

Sharon Wetz successfully battled breast cancer at 34 and spent the next 15 years committed to supporting others who were battling the disease. When the breast cancer returned nearly 15 years later, many of the programs that were her life mission became a vital source of comfort and support. "Support groups are crucial for patients and their families at times when their battle against cancer is turning their lives upside down." says Bryan Wetz. "While finding a cure is important, so is getting support and information out there to those in the midst of their own personal battle." SWBCA donates funds to groups identified by the brothers as having a direct, front line impact at the grass roots, local level.

Rising Gallery was opened by the brothers in October, 2008. PINK 2009 Art Auction is one way for Bryan and Taber to use art to make a difference. Rising?a gallery was identified by WFAA as one of the top five art galleries in North Texas in 2009. The gallery has spent their first year cultivating a reputation for providing patrons with diverse artwork in a clean, contemporary, and inviting space in Uptown Dallas. The gallery is located just off Knox Street between McKinney and Central (75).

Corporate sponsor OsGood-O'Neil Salon has joined the effort, providing information and collecting donations at each salon. "We are very fortunate to have Osgood-O'Neil taking such an active role in helping us raise funds to get to local organizations as well as awareness of the disease.", says Bryan. "Early diagnosis is so important so hopefully the salons provide an awareness that can lead to a life saved."

For a preview of the art available for auction or more information on the fund, the event or the gallery, go to www.risinggallery.com or contact Bryan Wetz directly at 214.215.1771.
